The Youth Symphony Orchestras of
MUSIK- UND JUGENDKUNSTSCHULE NÜRTINGEN &
MUNICIPAL CONSERVATORY OF KALAMATA

Music brings people together across borders. This idea lies at the heart of the international youth orchestra exchange between the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Music and Youth Art School Nürtingen, Germany, and the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata, Greece.

As part of the programme of the 10th International Kalamata Music Days and the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Music and Youth Art School Nürtingen, the project grew out of a shared desire to connect young musicians from both cities through their passion for music and to give them the opportunity to work together in an international setting.

During a week in Kalamata (25–30 October 2026), the young musicians will rehearse intensively to prepare a joint concert programme. Through sectional and full-orchestra rehearsals, they will get to know one another musically, exchange ideas and develop a shared interpretation of the repertoire.

Alongside the rehearsals and concerts, the exchange offers an opportunity to discover Greek culture, spend time together and learn more about each other’s everyday lives. Music provides a natural starting point for this encounter, while the time spent together helps build friendships that extend beyond the orchestra.

The project is conceived as a continuing partnership, with the young Greek musicians due to visit Nürtingen for a return visit. This will allow both orchestras to continue their collaboration and deepen the connections established during this first meeting.

The exchange is funded by the Deutsch-Griechisches Jugendwerk (DGJW) and made possible with the support of the TERPSIS parents’ association and the Förderverein Musik- und Jugendkunstschule Nürtingen, to whom we extend our sincere thanks.

We are delighted to present the results of our work and hope you enjoy the concert!

Tickets will be available exclusively on the day of the concert, Friday, 30 October 2026, at the Kalamata Dance Hall.
